The United Nations Statistics Division (UNSD) compiles, analyses and publishes global statistical information, develops technical cooperation programmes and international statistical activities, and assists Member States in improving their statistical services. 

The United Nations statistical reports on

etc. provides a picture of the state of the world and facilitates national and international policy formulation and implementation.

 

Documentation

The United Nations Statistical Yearbook contains a wide range of economic and social data from more than 200 countries.

World Statistics Pocketbook is a condensed version of the Statistical Yearbook.

Current economic statistics from most of the countries and areas of the world with a selection of tables are published in the Monthly Bulletin of Statistics.

Demographic Yearbook contains statistical tables on population size and composition, births, general mortality, nuptiality, marriage and divorce on an annual basis.

The World's Women... Trends and Statistics. Part of the statistical tables are posted online at the UN official web site.

Statistical data on gender issues is contained in the Human Development Report. It can be accessed online at the UNDP official web site.

Energy Statistics Yearbook is a comprehensive collection of international energy statistics.

Industrial Commodity Statistics Yearbook is an annual compilation of world industrial production.

International Trade Statistics Yearbook presents detailed information on the external trade performance of 145 countries. Volume One contains data on individual countries, Volume Two provides tables analyzing trade in commodities by region and country.

Statistical summaries and tables on specific subject areas are posted at the official web sites of the UN bodies, programs and funds.  

Databases and Indexes

United Nations Statistics Division publishes annual statistical reports, compendiums and handbooks. Nowadays statistical information is available as electronic publications and data files. For documentation from the UNSD: see DagDok, section Statistical Commission.

UNdata is a new resource which serves as a portal to statistical information. It contains 29 UN databases and 6 glossaries
with statistical information over the past 60 years on a variety of topics. 

UN Comtrade Database provides commodity trade data for all available countries and areas since 1962.
