Secretary-General's Reports to the Security Council

The Secretary-General and his staff of experts submit reports to the Security Council on issues called for by resolutions. Through these reports the Security Council obtains background information, analysis and recommendations for further action.

 

Documentation

The reports of the Secretary-General to the Security Council are issued as individual documents and for recent years the full text reports are posted at the UN official web site, Documents, Secretary-General's Reports to the Security Council.

For the period 1946-1992 the reports in print are included in the UN Collection of the Dag Hammarskjöld Library, Uppsala, and in the libraries at UN Headquarters in New York and Geneva

The UN Dag Hammarskjöld Library has created an online tutorial for searching the reports: How to Find Secretary-General's Reports.

Databases and Indexes

From 1993 onwards the reports can be retrieved through the United Nations Official Document System - ODS.  

References to the reports of the Secretary-General linking to full text for recent years can be retrieved from the UN online catalogue UNBISnet


Printed Indexes

References to all reports are included in the United Nations Documents Index. A complete collection of indexes is held by the Dag Hammarskjöld Library, Uppsala, and the libraries at UN Headquarters in New York and Geneva.
